What can a Peer Writing Consultant do for me?
Peer Writing Consultants are formally trained in ENGL 3256 to do a multitude of things for you. A Consultant can help you:
-
understand the professor's assignment instructions
-
generate ideas when you don't know how to start
-
review your draft and determine where evidence is lacking
-
organize and structure your ideas
-
find your thesis and maintain your focus
-
document sources correctly to avoid plagiarism
-
correct your grammatical, usage, and punctuation errors
-
decipher those tricky manuals - MLA, APA, and Turabian
-
help build your confidence as a writer and much more!
Peer Writing Consultants will give you feedback on all aspects of the writing process.
How do I make an appointment?
-
We accept walk-in appointments, but we also invite you to stop by and schedule an appointment by signing your name on the white board. Most consultations last thirty minutes; they begin and end on the hour and half-hour.
-
You can also access Writing Center services online, but you must allow for at least a 48-hour turnaround. (If you submit a paper online on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., you may not get it back until Thursday.)
-
We ask that you sign up for no more than ONE consultation per day.
-
Please be on time! If you are more than five minutes late and there are walk-in clients waiting, you will forfeit your appointment.
What should I bring to my appointment?
It would help us immensely if you could bring
-
a copy of the professor's assignment and any notes you took that explain the assignment;
-
your prewriting or rough drafts, although these are not required;
-
any necessary materials - pen, paper, textbook, research sources, etc.
Hurry! Writers will be consulted with on a first come, first served basis!
